MEDICINE - Portable realignment orthosis for wrist fractures.
The majority of injuries treated in a trauma ward are closed fractures of the wrist.
At least one traumatologist with 2 assistants are required to realign the broken bones through manual traction. This procedure results in poor posture and muscle fatigue in professionals and can harm the patient's health if not performed correctly.
Complex, bulky, torture-like, and scary devices are used with a great possibility of causing damage to the patient fingers and arms.
To achieve a radiolucent, transportable, and user-friendly product, the equipment was designed with 90% injected plastic. This technology allows the use of a constructible device through snap connectors. The production of independent parts enables the development of a system that is easy to maintain and replace, also allowing the development of sub-products or alternatives within a product line.
The procedure consists of (1) wrist traction, (2) realignment of the fractured bone, (3) temporary casting, (4) x-ray verification, and (5) final casting.
Requirement: transportable and radiolucent.
